We completely adore impressed labor-of-love tales resembling this one. [Alastair] needed to construct a synth for his daughter’s third birthday regardless of having no prior {hardware} information. It turned the proper excuse to find out about CAD, microcontrollers, PCB design, and naturally, 3D printing.
So, why a synth for a toddler? Except for plain previous ‘why not?’, the story goes that she acquired a Montessori busy-type board which she appeared to get pleasure from, and it reminded [Alastair] of the management floor of a synth. He puzzled how exhausting it might be to construct one thing comparable that made sound and didn’t require fixed button presses.
[Alastair] started his journey by dusting off a 15-year-old Arduino Inventors Package. The preliminary purpose was to get potentiometer readings and map them to 12 discrete values, after which emit MIDI messages. This was straightforward sufficient, and it was time to maneuver to a synth module and an Elegoo Nano.
The total journey is unquestionably well worth the learn. Make sure to try the pink model in motion after the break. You actually don’t wanna miss the lil’ panda bear. Belief us.
Thanks for the tip, [dole]!
