A council has apologised after a employee hacked down a part of a person’s backyard – as a result of the vegetation ‘made his home look derelict’. Andrew Wheatley, 60, was shocked when he obtained a message from his neighbour asking why he was eliminating his ivy.

Andrew, of Brighton, went to test exterior and located a council worker had completed hacking away and was sweeping it up. Andrew stated the employee advised him the authority had obtained complaints from neighbours concerning the foliage and it was ‘making his home look derelict’.

Brighton and Hove Metropolis Council admits it was ‘wrongly’ reduce by the employee after it obtained a request for ‘weed administration within the space’. Mr Wheatley stated the council ‘reduce the principle stem’ of the ivy and it has died in every single place now.

He stated: “My neighbour despatched me a textual content saying ‘why are you eliminating your ivy?’ and I stated I wasn’t eliminating it . I noticed this council man and he stated ‘we’ve got obtained complaints from neighbours about it and it’s making the place look derelict’.

A Brighton and Hove Council spokesperson stated: “Sadly it appears a well-meaning member of our avenue cleansing group did certainly take away this ivy.
